“I Am Who They Were” Necklace by Artist Ashley Gilreath 2011. Read the history behind this amazing piece and see more photos at Ashley Gilreath here. Ms. Gilreath created this necklace by casting dollhouse frames in silver and bronze and printing family portraits directly onto microscope glass.

How would I make a “poor man’s copy” of this? By using  dollhouse frames/bezels and taken apart lockets (I could also make the frames by making a polymer clay mold). I would then print out photos on ink jet transparency paper (which I use all the time in my collages).

The Earth at Night (by NASA)

We’re now able to see “Unprecedented” new views of what our incredible Earth looks like at night. Last year, a new sensor, called VIIRS (Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite), was launched aboard the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership Satellite, which, amazingly is sensitive enough to detect the light from a single ship in the sea.

Chinese photographer Huang Qingjun has spent nearly 10 years travelling to remote areas in China to convince people to have their picture taken along with all of their possessions. At first glance it’s striking how little they own but as you look closer at each image you’ll discover items that might be unexpected.
